If you’re between 44 and 55 years old, you or some of your friends may be experiencing perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms. This time in a woman’s life can pass without much discomfort, but the symptoms can be unbearable for many.

Some of you may have already started going through the menopausal cycle, which can last up to 14 years. But take heart; acupuncture can help ease those sometimes-debilitating physical imbalances.

If you aren’t sure which stage, you are in, check out these guidelines:

Perimenopause

During this stage, your menstrual cycles may lengthen or shorten, and your body ceases to ovulate. Hot flashes, sleep issues, and vaginal dryness may start to creep in. Once 12 consecutive months pass without a menstrual period, you have officially entered menopause, although you may still have occasional spotting.

Menopause

Once you are in the menopause stage, you may experience all or some of the following symptoms: vaginal dryness, hot flashes, chills, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes, weight gain, slowed metabolism, thinning hair, dry skin, loss of breast fullness. That doesn’t sound like much fun, does it?

Postmenopause

By this time, menopausal symptoms may lessen or completely go away. You could still have hot flashes, poor sleep, sexual issues, and mood changes because once you are postmenopausal, hormone levels will remain at a low level. You may also notice osteoporosis setting in, which means your bones may become more brittle and fragile from tissue loss, hormonal changes, and/or a deficiency of calcium or vitamin D.

Acupuncture to the Rescue!

Many past postmenopausal women never realized the power of acupuncture to help heal those nagging symptoms from the 1st and 2nd stages that seem to last forever! Don’t go another day feeling like someone has inhabited or kidnapped your body when you can find relief!

Reasons Acupuncture Helps with Menopause and Other Hormonal Issues

Hormonal imbalances caused by menopause create symptoms that can be relieved by following a multi-pronged approach that can include acupuncture, nutrition, supplements, and possibly a few lifestyle changes.

How it Works

Acupuncture is a primary or supplemental treatment that focuses on stimulating acupoints (specific physical points on the body). The process generally involves fine, sterile needles that penetrate the skin in the acupoint areas. The treatment can also include moxibustion (heat-based therapy), ear-based therapy, and more.

Acupuncture works by releasing blockages in the body that stop its natural flow by tapping into these pressure points to eliminate trapped tension. This helps the body return to its healthier state of homeostasis and allows the restoration of balance.

Don’t Be Defenseless

Many women are unaware of this effective treatment and resort to popping an aspirin, cuddling up with a heating pad, and staying away from others in case of mood swings.

You do not have to have a rough time during these seemingly trying years. Acupuncture can also reduce or eliminate menstrual migraines and headaches!

Don’t hesitate to consult with an acupuncture professional. They will listen to your body report and provide an excellent and efficient treatment plan. It’s always best to begin acupuncture treatments at the onset of symptoms so you can stay ahead of any pain or discomfort. However, it can also be very effective at any of the three menopausal stages.
