Stomach inflammation, also known as gastritis, is a condition when the stomach lining becomes swollen and inflamed. It is uncomfortable and can be debilitating in so many ways. Recurring gastritis can also affect the quality of your life, as it may cause you to eliminate or postpone social activities.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms – nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion – you may have an imbalance of energy flow in your body (also known as Qi).

Acupuncture can help restore the balance of Qi by stimulating specific acupuncture points that correspond to the stomach and digestive system. Typically, acupuncture treatment for stomach inflammation involves inserting needles at points on the abdomen, back, and legs. The tiny needles are left in place for approximately 30 minutes, and the treatment may be repeated several times over the course of several weeks.

Here’s How it Works

  1. Consultation

The first step is to consult with a licensed acupuncturist who will evaluate your symptoms and medical history to determine if acupuncture is the right treatment for you.

  2. Preparation

You will wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the areas being treated. You will lie down on a treatment table to provide easy access for the acupuncturist and for your total comfort.

  3. Needling

Thin, sterile needles will be placed into specific points on your body. For stomach inflammation, those points are those that correspond to the stomach meridian, which is believed to regulate digestive function.

  4. Stimulation

Once the needles are in place, they may be stimulated with heat, electricity, or gentle pressure to enhance their therapeutic effects.

  5. Rest and Relax

You will rest for around 30 minutes. You may feel a mild sensation or tingling, but it should not be painful. A licensed acupuncturist will know the proper methods for insertion and removal.

  6. Follow-Up Treatment Plan

After the acupuncture session, the practitioner will provide specific dietary and lifestyle recommendations to support your healing process. They may also suggest using herbal medicine to enhance the effects of the treatment. Together, we can create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your unique needs and symptoms, incorporating these various modalities to optimize your health and well-being.
